Louisiana tourism industry’s best honored with Louey Awards
Many, LA – The Sabine Parish Tourist Commission has been awarded a 2010 Travel and Tourism Industry Louey Award for Outstanding Convention and Visitor’s Bureau/Tourist Commission Budget for $250,000-$749,999 for the Year.
Sabine Parish Tourist and Recreation Commission was awarded for their extensive knowledge of their product and also their market. Toledo Bend Lake Country has a diverse market that includes both retiree’s and young adults and the Tourist Commission does an outstanding job to reach both audiences.
The Sabine Parish Tourist Commission received the honor in front of nearly three hundred members of the state’s tourism industry at the Louey Awards luncheon on Thursday, January 27 during the 2011 Travel and Tourism Industry Summit at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center. On hand to present the Loueys were Alana Cooper, Chairman of the LTPA Board/Executive Director of the Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau and Jim Hutchinson, Assistant Secretary of the Louisiana Office of Tourism. The Sabine Parish Tourist Commission’s Louey was one of twelve awarded during the ceremony and was voted as the winner out of twenty-four nominations reviewed by out-of-state judges.
“To receive a Louey is truly an honor,” said Darienne Mobley, Co-Executive Director of LTPA. “It is one of the few awards in Louisiana that exclusively recognizes the accomplishments of tourism professionals across the state.”
The Travel and Tourism Industry Louey Awards luncheon is held every year as the closing ceremony of the Annual Travel and Tourism Industry Summit. Loueys are awarded to industry professionals for a number of categories including Convention and Visitors Bureau/Tourist Commission of the Year based on three budget levels – up to $249,999; $250,000-$749,999; and $750,000 and higher. Other awards include Festival/Event of the Year, Attraction of the Year, Tourism Campaign/Promotion of the Year, Governmental Friend of Tourism, LTPA Associate Member of the Year, Victor Profis Memorial Travel Media Louey, Legislative Friend of Tourism, and the Will Mangham Lifetime Achievement Louey. Applicants do not have to be a member of LTPA; any member of the state’s tourism industry is encouraged to apply or submit nominations. The application/nomination process takes place every year around early August and lasts until early November. During these months entry forms can be fund online at www.LTPA.org.
