Pleasant Hill is well known to Civil War buffs due to its prominence in the war. It was the site of the last Confederate victory.
Each April, a re-enactment of the Battle of Pleasant Hill is staged, with thousands of visitors flocking to the site to relive a piece of Louisiana history. The Battle is held every year the weekend closest to April 9, the day the actual battle took place during the Civil War.
