Hodges Gardens State Park is located approximately 15 miles south of Many on U.S. Highway 171.
Originally designed and opened to the public in 1956 by oil and gas businessman A.J. Hodges Sr., the site gardens consists of a variety of plants and flowers, from a formal rose garden to a collection of Japanese Red Maple trees.
Until 2006, Hodges Gardens was operated by a private non-profit foundation. That year, the Hodges Gardens Foundations donated the park, land, and gardens to the State of Louisiana. The park boasts over 700 acres of native and cultivated flora.
Water from a 225-acre lake, built in 1954, is pumped from the lake through the gardens to waterfalls, pools, a geyser, fountains and to the watering system before it is recycled back into the lake. At this site, nature-oriented visitors will experience a wide range of topography, from cultivated gardens featuring both native and imported foliage to rock formations that were exposed during logging and mining operations in the early 20th century.
Admission: $5/person; $4 for Seniors (62 and over) and free for children 3 and under.
Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
