Located 18 miles from Pendleton Bridge
Highway 6 West across Pendleton Bridge to Texas Hwy 21 will lead you toward Hemphill, Texas. For a brief history detour, turn into Pendleton Subdivision off Hwy 21 to visit the Gaines-Oliphant House, built around 1818, and known as one of the earliest Pre-Republic and Anglo-American structures in Texas.
Continue on Hwy 21 about 7 miles to Milam, incorporated in 1837. Nethery's General Merchandise, the oldest continuously-run business in Sabine County, dates back to the 1880's. It is a unique shopping experience.
From Milam, travel Hwy 87 south 10 miles to Hemphill's town square. On any given day, men can be found playing dominoes under "The Cedar Tree" on the lawn of the courthouse. The square offers several unique stores and restaurants.
Located 2 blocks south is the Pace Creek Garden District, which is home to Pace Creek Gift Shop and Garden Center, The Clothes Horse, Cedar Tree Nest Quilts and Repose Massage Studio.
