Natchitoches Toledo Bend Located 30 miles west of Many on Hwy 6

The City of Natchitoches, established in 1714, is the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. Visitors are drawn to it for its historical charm, authentic culture, cuisine and varied shopping opportunities.

Kaffie-Frederick General Mercantile on Front Street, Louisiana's oldest hardware and general store, is a must-see along with over 30 other stores to complete your shopping experience. Select one of a dozen restaurants in the downtown historic district serving Creole, Cajun and Southern dishes.

The area is also home to the Cane River National Heritage Area and the Alligator Park. Stroll along the scenic Cane River Lake, walk through the museums and art galleries, or take in an interpretive tour at the replica of Fort St. Jean Baptiste.

Weekends on the Riverfront are often filled with musical events and festivals. For a complete calendar of events, call 800-259-1714 or visit www.natchitoches.net.

Outside of the City of Natchitoches find plenty more interesting sites to visit and tour, including Melrose Plantation, Magnolia Plantation (slave cabin shown at left), Cane River Creole Plantation, and other fantastic plantations, St. Augustine Church (at right), old relic stores, cotton gins and lots more!
