Battle of Pleasant Hill | Toledo Bend Festivals | Sabine Parish, Louisiana

The Annual Battle of Pleasant Hill marks the anniversary of one of the major events in Louisiana during the Civil War, the Red River Campaign. The actual battle took place in and around the Village of Pleasant Hill on April 9, 1864.
More than 400 re-enacters join in to make the miniature Civil War town come alive. Festivities include a parade, pageant, period dance, Church services and open camp activities.

Juneteenth Celebration 3rd weekend in June.

Juneteenth is a day of reflection, a day of renewal, a pride-filled day. It is a moment in time taken to appreciate the African American experience. It is inclusive of all races, ethnicities and nationalities. Festivities include a parade, praise and worship singing extravaganza, story telling, games, pig roasting, and a car show. It is a day that young and old come together to listen and to refresh the drive to achieve.

Choctaw-Apache Indian Pow Wow | Toledo Bend Festivals | Sabine Parish, Louisiana

On the third weekend of April, the Choctaw-Apache Tribe, located on the banks of Toledo Bend at the Community of Ebarb, hosts a traditional Pow Wow. The Choctaw-Apache Tribal Pow Wow celebrates the 2,500-plus member tribe's roots.

Fisher Sawmill Days | Toledo Bend Festivals | Sabine Parish, Louisiana

Fisher Sawmill Days, held the third weekend in May, "tells it like it was" in Fisher at the turn of the last century during the early days of lumbering in Louisiana.

The Sawmill Days recaptures the flavor of life in a sawmill village with a wide variety of events.

Featured during the festival are an old fashioned jamboree of country, western, bluegrass, and gospel music, a flea market, folk arts and crafts, horse and wagon rides, square dancing, food, horse shoe pitching, fiddlin', and numerous other games and contests with prizes.

Florien Freestate Festival | Toledo Bend Festivals | Sabine Parish, Louisiana

The Florien Freestate Festival, aka Sabine Free State Festival, is held annually the first weekend in November in the southern Sabine Parish Village of Florien.

Celebrate the period in Western Louisiana's history when this region was declared neutral ground pending settlement of a dispute between Spain and the U.S.

Arts & crafts, games, parade, treasure hunt, quilt demonstrations, western shoot-outs, music and local talent, bull rides, kids' games and rides, and more are part of this downhome fun festival.

Sabine Parish Fair | Toledo Bend Festivals | Sabine Parish, Louisiana

The Sabine Parish Fair is held during the last full week of September. Lots of fun for the entire family include: carnival rides, games, rodeos, arts and crafts, livestock show, and plenty of food and music.

Zwolle Loggers | Toledo Bend Festivals | Sabine Parish, Louisiana

Much of Zwolle's and even the entire Toledo Bend area's local industry once revolved around the logging business. Still today, the Zwolle area is dependant upon the logging industry. So it is fitting that just about a decade ago, a group of local leaders came up with the idea of the Zwolle Loggers & Forestry Festival.

The Zwolle Loggers & Forestry Festival is held each year on the second weekend in May.

Zwolle Tamale Fiesta | Toledo Bend Festivals | Sabine Parish, Louisiana

The Zwolle Tamale Fiesta is a celebration of this areas Spanish and Native American Heritage.

The three-day event is held in Zwolle each year the second weekend in October.

Among events planned during the Fiesta are a tamale making demonstration, tamale eating and tamale judging contest, treasure hunt, street dance, arts & crafts, and a parade.

The Fiesta also features pageants, arm wrestling contests for all ages, Spanish costume contests, rides and food booths, a very popular Fiesta Mud Bog Race for trucks, and over 20,000 dozen tamales for sale.
